High resolution, contemporary data on human population distributions are a prerequisite for the accurate measurement of the impacts of population growth, for monitoring changes and for planning interventions. The AsiaPop project was initiated in July 2011 with an aim of producing detailed and freely-available population distribution maps for the whole of Asia.

8th November 2012: 2010 and 2015 datasets (unadjusted and adjusted to UN national total estimates) for Japan available for download. Please note that these are early version datasets and will be updated in the coming months as improved settlement mapping is undertaken, more detailed and contemporary population data are acquired and regression-tree mapping approaches are developed.
